  3. Product
  4. Application

Sealing a deck sounds simple, however most of our customers are people who tried to do it themselves the year before.  What they don’t know is that the costs can triple if they first try to do it themselves – and don’t get it right. This is why hiring professionals is the best choice.

  1. Preparation Preparation requires a high powered washer, not a garden hose and scrub brush. If you do not remove the dirt, debris, damaged wood fibers and open the deck to receive stain, you will not get the best results. Also BE AWARE, if you are not properly trained with a washer you can cut the wood on your deck, seriously or permanently harming it.
  2. Conditions – do not stain when the nights are going to be cold. The stain needs to dry slowly and without frost or freezing. Also, be sure it is dry and clean.  A good stain will penetrate the wood and dry quickly, but watch the weather.
  3. Product – be sure to use a penetrating stain, and be aware, NOT ALL STAINS ARE CREATED EQUALLY. Consult us directly before staining. About 1/2 of our customers previously took The recommendations of Home Depot and used Behr Stain – only to regret it.
  4. Application – nothing beats a hand applied stain. Spraying can be difficult, messy and does not have the even application necessary for a high quality job.
